Bought my sp500 in March of this year, 35 hrs on it, had the brakes go, steering bushings, and now the bolt in the rear lower control arm sheared. My question is everytime I bring it to the dealer, it takes him 2 weeks to fix the problem(and a B.S. excuse for the delay). Is this wait normal? How does the warranty work? Does it cost the dealer something to fix the sp when it is under warranty?

I live 50 miles from the dealer and have taken my sp 500 back twice. Once for brakes and once for leaking water pump seal. I dropped it off with them and ran around town a little and picked it up both times in 2 hours or less. I called ahead of time to let them know that I was coming and made sure that they knew I planned on taking it home with me so I didn't have to make a return trip.

Both trips were covered by the warranty. They replaced the front brake pads and rotors and everything is fine. Needless to say I'm very satisfied with them and will keep doing buisness with them.

Polaris warranty cost the dealer in terms that they don't allow enough time to fix something. We diagnosed a 500 Scrambler, pulled the motor, put in a new crankshaft assy', put it back together and made it run. Guess how much time they allowed. 5 1/2 hours! And didn't pay us to have the cylinder bored or pay for the oil that got contaminated when it froze up! I defie anyone to do it in that amount of time. Thats where the profit went in that machine.

Yeah Chopperbill, but isn't that shoptime by the
book? Like Cars, the book says, under absolutely ideal conditions a job should take, say 5 hours.
And almost nobody can do it in that time, but you get $45/hr and it establishes an incentive to get it done, and a level playing field. Otherwise you get shops charging $45 for real time and the customer getting the shaft.
My Son's Trail Boss had a defective lower end which we didn't know about. After we traded it in
the dealer spotted the serial number was one of the suspect numbers, rebuilt the motor before reselling it. We were astonished, and glad to have traded it in. They said "no Problem" they weere happy with the $$ they got from Polaris for doing the job, and glad to nip the problem in the bud.
There are good dealers and there are bad dealers and shoptime evens things out.
As far as Service goes, I always make an appointment and ask how long it is going to take.
Silly Later, Fourlix

I got my two quads back on friday from my dealer. Last time I went they installed the rear wheel on backwards...this time it was not even bolted on!!!

One bolt was half way tight and the other 3 were just dangling! Plus my tie rod end was rubbing the front tire...they did not even check! I promised myself that it was the last time I go there...except for warranty work. Plus the rear mechanical brake was not even tightened! They really need some training.

They may do a rotten job but at least the quads are ready after 2 days!

IF YOU'RE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE SERVICE THAT YOU ARE RECEIVING, GO TO A NEW DEALER, OR CONTACT POLARIS DIRECTLY AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM !!!!

I am in a very heavy populated area of ATVs.There are three Polaris dealers within 20 miles of my home. They all SUCK in terms of how long a time your quad is in the shop before they even look at it,no matter how big or small your problem may be.It is generally a 2 week wait before any three of them will even get it in their doors to look at,then another two weeks to order parts, than usually another wk before it will be repaired.I once took my Sportsman in for a water pump under warrenty,it was 5 wks before I got it back. All of the dealers in my area suck no matter if it be Honda,Yamaha,or Suzuki.I stayed with the Polaris quads because all the dealers regardless of brand name just dont give a damn how long your quad is in the shop, and I liked Polaris most,so if your going to have to wait for service regardless of brand, you might as well be waiting for the quad you like best.

I try to repair my own quad as often as I can,but it sure gets you pissed repairing something yourself that is under warrenty just so you dont have to wait 5 wks to get your quad back.===Bill

Does polaris require a certian time for repairs, a maximum time for a given repair? it seems if a dealer is taking that long to repair atvs then they need to hire more staff. i would think polaris would not like dealers taking that long cause it makes the customer that much more unhappy.

Have only had experience with one Polaris dealer. The machine is always in and out the same day. The guy has one mechanic and a helper. The mechanic is fast.

Unfortunately the dealership was just sold. Have not tried the new guy yet.
