Default Scrambler 500 Steering Bearing

I looked at an '04 Scrambler today and noticed it had a steering bearing instead of bushing. Is this new for '04? Is so, can older units be retro fitted with a bearing?

I think it came out in '01 or '02. It wont fit older scramblers unless you get the larger diameter steeering shaft to go with it. Unless you could machine a shim/spacer between the bearing id and the shaft od.
