what size wrench do i need to change the front sprocket?
#1
i purchased a 15 tooth front sprocket for my ds and was planning on instalilng it this weekend.... does anyone know off hand what size wrench ill need to get the nut off? im assuming itsl ike 25-35mm..... (havnt really taken a close look)
i think the biggest we ahve around here is like... 20 or somthin...
i was with someone who was changing the sprocket on there raptor (neighbor of mine) and he had to go ask a buddy of his at the fire department for the proper size...)
is there anything special i need to know when changing it? certain amount of ft/lbs that nut has to be on? any kind of lube on it or anything?
I run 22 inch realtor tires in the dunes and for snow and the slightly lower gearing should help me a lot with drags.

theres going to be a washer that is bent around the nut. you'll have to unbend it so its fairly flast before you can loosen the nut. not a big deal but its somethin that you gotta do.

Do you really need Loctite? As long as you have the lock washer bent over it shouldn't move right? (I didn't put Loctite on last time. . . why I ask.)
I keep destroying those washers with sprocket changes. I keep about 3 of them on hand these days.

You'll need to get them from the dealer. I think they are $4.97 each. I suggest keeping an extra with you. Don't have the part number handy but just tell them it is the counter sprocket lock washer (has ridges on the I.D. and is bent in two places on the O.D. Bend one of those tabs up and tight to the nut to keep it from backing off.

Good idea, I need an extra, I will get one next time I go to the dealer...You don't want that thing coming off.

I've had one come off. I can only guess because I used the same washer to many times I know Marky also had his come off at 4SW's last year. I need to replace my washer on the next gearing change. Actually I prolly already should have. But the locktight is added security for me. I need to keep a few extra washers but for some reason when Im at the parts house I always forget.
