Default Risks of no spark arrester, should I worry?

Guys
I was talking to a buddy last night showing him my New DS with billet end cap. He has been riding for ever in Nevada and says it is a huge fine for no spark arrester. Is this true where you live? Should I worry about this?

There is some discussion right now about the billet end caps and there is the possibility of a screen strainer from wal-mart being used as a spark arrester. That would make for a cheap conversion, as well as very cheap and easy to replace. I'm going to have one of the Billet end caps soon, so I'm hoping to see pics of the strainer used so I can go look in Wal-Mart to buy one.

Most of the riding areas i have ridden look for " USFS APPROVED SPARK ARRESTOR" stamped into the silencer / muffler. All stock silencers / mufflers are stamped. If you can read stamping on your stock pipe after the endcap is installed you may get by OK !
