i just been given a unbranded F1 Sport Kids quad 50cc. It has been sat in rain so very rusty. Never having had a quad (albeit handy at repairing lawnmowerws and chainsaws) i thought i'd see if I can get it running, but welcome ideas on where to start.

I'm guessing it needs new fuel, fuel filter and possibly fuel line, new plug and change the oil. I have found a small dip stick which i assume is the negine oil, but not sure whethger it will have a drain plug or do you turn it upside down? Also not sure what oil to put in there? Or whether there is any gearbox oil you need to worry about?

Brakes and throttle are also rusty siezed but assume i need to see whether its running before I worry about those!

any advice VERY welcome!

 

Welcome to the forums.
On top of what you mentioned, clean the carb.
There should be a drain plug. I'd use a 10-40 oil.

Right, the problem is electrical, but there are various small electrical boxes (coil? Solenoids?). Any tips on identifying what these might be and how to test them?

Or how to bypass them and just provide power to the starter motor and spark?
