Default driving in 4x4 for long period does this damage hubs?

I have heard from a polaris dealer that driving in 4x4 for extended periods will weld front hubs together
I know a guy who left his bike in 4x4 all the time & the hubs welded themselves together & the wires burned off the the hubs so he says. my self think that the fluid was low or he drove on the pavement alot.
we are geting snow in nova scotia ca. & i would like to drive in 4x4 to help with controll & to stop spining rear wheels all the time Will this damage my hubs? did anyone else hear this happening before.

thanks
jason

I dont know if it will or wont, but what i do know is that i just had 2 feet of snow up here in boston, and i used AWD alot. It was great and like the other doods said, it kicks in when the rears slip. So GO FOR IT and have fun.

They guy who melted his wires and welded his hubs probably left the parking brake on and needed 4x4 just to move, over heated the discs and hubs welding stuff together. My wife hopped on mine and came very close to doing this same thing. The brakes front and back were smokin and I was screaming and waving my arms. She just kept on going. She finally pulled up to me and asked why is it goin so slow. She almost got beat. lol
