Need Raptor crank shaft work done......
#1
Where should I start??? If you have seen my other post you know the background to this. Something let loose in the bottom end and beat up the crank and counter balancer and is now stuck between them. I have not split the cases yet. I do have everything from the piston up removed. I need the crank redone or replaced, what ever broke replaced and maybe a rod. I am looking for someone who is good with the bottom end of these engines to do that work for me. Once I get that back in good shape I am gonna install a high comp piston and maybe a cam and a new clutch for now. Maybe a future 686 but not yet. Is there anyplace that you could reccomend sending the bottom half of the engine to to do the work on the crank ect.???? Also anything to look into when having this done?? I have heard of the carrillo rod, but that sounds pretty expensive, considering all the money that is already needed to get it going again....

Absolutely get the Carrillo. I would also suggest boreing the cases for 727 while you are there. That way you won't have to split the cases to do that later (if you go that far.)
Powroll should be able to do it (no first hand experience though.)
Bob Craycraft mentioned someone out of Florida. . . give him a call and he can tell you who can do the installation of the new rod and true the crank.
As far as the assembly and disassembly goes. . . let me know if you get in a jam. My builder has great shop rates ans has built some of the fastest bikes (DS's) in the US. He will be tearing down and rebuildin my buddy's Raptor (putting in a new Tranny) starting next Monday.
Freight would cost a bit but, his shop rate is 1/2 of what most others charge and he has great attention to detail.

rAPTORRIDER- Send it to a builder or a first rate place that specializes in cranks. I sent one of my cranks to the local yamaha shop who preceded to beat the hell out of it and not put all the parts back in the same spots. Also tell who you use the year model. The crank pin is a little bit different for the newer rappy's. We all know who i like.

I talked to Mr. Craycraft today! Sounds like he will be the guy!!! Now I just have to come up with all the money first. Once I get all the bottom end worked out I think I am gonna go with a mild 686 as well. Oh well, only time will tell I guess.
