i get a vibration at top end, could my wheels and tires need balancing like a car? Thanks for any help.

 

I'll bet there is some type of flat preventative in the tires that is causing them to "go outa round" at high speeds.

Slime, Camel, etc., have a reputation for throwing the tires off balance when you ride at high speed. Other than that, it would have to be that the tires were not off the ground when they were installed onto the hub. The tires must be off the ground when you re-install your tires and tighten the lugs up. If you fail to do this, the tire can be set off just a tiny bit due to the weight of the ATV and the clearance between the lugs and lug holes in the rims. The tires then do not rotate in a linear manner and cause vibration at high speeds. This is especially important on older, used rims.

Once you "snug" up the lugs, put the ATV back on the ground and tighten them up all the way!

It's also possible that you are experiencing a condition known as "head shake" sometimes caused by the tread pattern or wear chacteristics of the tires in conjunction with the particular front end geometry of the machine. I had the same problem With my Warrior when running at or near top end. I eliminated the problem with a damper, which also helped in the usual ways.

 

Right on Rob, I dont know how many times I have seen this. Now every time someone says they have a vibration I say, Tire sealant huh.
