Does anybody know the top speed of A Honda 400 EX?

 

About 68,Did 70 with diferent gears.

 

I've done 70 with the throttle adjusted an my 400EX rejetted.

 

It varys in the Magazines but most of them said 64 for a bone stock 400EX. I wish Honda would pay as much attention to the 400ex as they do the CR250. Then it would be TOP OF THE LINE. It is still the best overall quad out there.

 

My friend followed me in a car, he said his speedo said 70 and i was pulling away. My 400ex is stock.

I clocked two differnt 400EX's one stock, one with a 426 kit. Stock gears on both. 55 too 57 mph. tops. The 400EX is not that fast of bike it is quick to reach the top speed but runs out of gear. My stock 250R will eat them up any day. top speed on it is only 65. to 68 mph. So any 400EX faster than that has changed the gearing or that is what they thought they were doing.

 

I to used to believe that the 400ex did 64 mph stock, as dirt wheels stated. A few weekends ago, I decided to finally check for once and all (I got sick and tired of reading reports of 75-80 mph stock from some of the forumsters - you know who you are). With my trusty garmin III gps in hand, (ok, so it was pinned between my legs) I ventured off to a nice, long, FLAT, blacktop road with the 400ex. Final result? 68.4 mph sustained. I was pleasantly surprised. On gravel I got about 60 mph out of her. I'm 185 pounds.

Proclamations of faster readings is the result of taller gearing (i.e., gears, tires, etc.), or a 12 year old wanting to ride a 400ex, claiming to own one. Likewise, proclamations of slower readings is the result of the proclamer owning a slower quad that wishes to rival the 400ex - or he/she is just chubby!

 

When I checked the speeds we were on a private blacktop road.What you found is close to what I said for top speed. The driver of the 400EX goes 230#. with the stock 20 in. tires You are right I think this forum is starting to get over ran with bull from kids or poop stirs.

 

lucky you say 55-56mph for a 400? come on man.... i was clocked by a good friend of mine with a state of the art radar gun on my 300ex before i had it built to a 330ex with just a pipe and filter, and was clocked at 57.4 mph....come on man, my bro would bull the stickers off my bike with his 400 and that was before he did anything to it....i would guess a plain stock bike would go 65 and tops around 70......up one gear in the front like my bro has done and expect about 70-75 and im not one of these lil kids that guesses, i know for a fact......

 

luckywilson is right thow, That 6th gear on the R picks up right where 5th gear on the EX tops out.

Got passed at 70,,,,,Not sure these tires are speed rated? Would not want to have a blow out at 70.

That's fast enough for me.
