pulling a honda 110 head?
#1
How do you pull the honda 110 head off, I removed every visible bolt that I can find but there is still a rod in there holding the head on. Do I have to remove the ignition. If so how do I retime it? I don't see any marks to time it.
thanks

Havent pulled a 110 head, but have pulled 50s and 70s. They should be similar. the rod you see, may just be the hollow dowel pin, used to locate the head on the cylinder , and the oil also flows up them. i think there are 4 bolts on top, and two at the split line of the head and cylinder. You may have to tap the head around with a rubber or plastic hammer, to break the head gasket seal. After years of use, it can really stick . Be careful not to hammer the fins too hard, they break easily.
Yes the ignition plate needs to come out,and so does the cam. turn the crank to top dead center, that holds the timing, and takes the spring pressure off of the cam.
You may want to go to a public library and get a clymer manual, most big libraries have them for hondas, and others.

so you can't take it off without taking the ignition off? I bought a haynes manual. Is the clymer much better? It hasnt' arrived yet but I was trying to get it off before hand. I striped the spark plug and was going to put a helicoil in.
thanks for the help

Did you on bolt the cam sprocket from the cam? Cam and chain will pull through the head allowing the head to be removed? If i remember right also have to take out the cam chain idler bolt just below the cam. This is how the 50s and the 70s were. Hope this helps. Uncletom

seems to me the ignition, and backing plate, needs to come out , so the cam can come out. Haynes or clymer, either will work fine. If you put some scratch marks ,in line,on the plate and the housing, that should get the timing close enough when you put it back together.
