Default is it time for a new one????

when i was using my winch today to pull out a friend, my lights would dim GREATLY, the winch wasn't pulling at full power (even when i had it in neutral and giving it gas) and then i stopped using it and put it in reverse and it died, and i had to use the pull start to start it again. later on, after i rode around, i shut it off and the battery seems fine now???????? what do i do? get a new battery???

Sounds more like a bad connection somewhere to me. Maybe a bad ground. Was it real cold? Batteries can behave poorly when cold. Can you see the water level in the cells? My need to be refilled. Use distilled or purified water to fill it to the marks on the side.

Check for loose or corroded connections, especialy where the cables go to the battery. Then charge the battery, it should hold more than 13. volts. Then when under load, such as the starter, it should hold more than 10 volts. If it doesnt, then change it out.
Or you could take the battery out and bring it to napa or some other auto parts store, and they can load test it.
