is it ok to use gasket maker?
#1
i used gasket maker to seal my crank case cover. is that ok to do? i have yet to ride it. i still have to fill it up with oil after i wait 24hours for it to completely seal. i did not use much at all just a thin bead then i made sure there was only a little on with a putty knife so it did not goosh inside the case after i tightened down the bolts.

what i used was not designed to be used with a gasket. at least it said nothing about the use of anything other than the sealant. it is NAPA "gasket maker". its designed to create a gasket or rather a gasket seal rather than use a seperate gasket. thus that gasket i was asking about a night or two ago is sitting beside my atv rather than in it. i figure i can always use gasket remover if it is not good for atvs, then use the $13 honda gasket if i am forced to.
this is the stuff i used.

BIIIIIIG NO NO, ALWAYS USE THE GASKET ALONG WITH HE GASKET MAKER, the only thing you should be using the gasket maker for is to seal a gasket, even if you ripped your old gasket, piece i back together and seal it with the gasket maker then placethe cover onthe egine case but push it on only enough for the sealer to make contact, let it set fr an hour, then tighten it. works like a charm.

i just used the gasket alone. it made a fine seal. so is it the norm for u guys to use the maker along with the regular gasket?
now i just have a leak from the bottom hose hook up going ino the case. i think i need a new seal for it. or do 400EXs have a really slow leak if you put too much oil in?
