Zerks on '03 sp500
#1
I have a '03 sp500 and was wondering how many zerks fittings does it have and their location. I bought the polaris service manual for this particular bike but it doesnt seem to contain that info, neither does the owners manual that comes with the bike. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Depends on the mfr date. You probably have either 3 (early 03) or 7 (later 03). You will definitely have these 3:
One near bottom of strut housing to grease ball joint (one on each strut) 2
One on prop shaft (where front driveshaft comes out of rear case)3
You may have these in addition:
One on the ujoint where the front axle comes out of the front case (one on each side)
One on the ujoint where the front driveshaft goes into the front case
One on the back ujoint on the front driveshaft (between prop shaft fitting and front ujoint)
Look at these for reference:
Front drive shaft
Front axle

Pest, you dont know how helpful that was. I bought the service manual and its telling me 7. I have checked the u joints and there is deffinately grease there but no zerk fittings. Does this mean I only have 3 and my 600 must be an early 03? If so I will sleep better, I have had so many people look for the ones mentioned in the manual and no one can find them, but never heard of anyone saying there were only 3

Just guessing, all the 600's have only 3 fittings. I had an 01 500 HO and it had like 26 or so fittings. In December 02 a friend and I bought new machines the same day. He bought an 03 600 that was mfr'd in Nov. 02 and I bought an 03 700 that was mfr'd in Aug. 02. My 700 has 7 fittings (as decscribed above) and his 600 only has 3. Based on that and what others have posted on these message boards, I have determined that sometime between Aug. 02 and Nov. 02, they stopped putting the fittings on the u-joints. It was a bad idea in my opinion; I don't really think that the fittings on all the bushings really increased the life of the bushings, but I definitely think that the ones on the u-joints were beneficial.
