Default Big Bear Axle Rear End Trouble?

I was plowing my driveway with my friends 1997 Big Bear. All of a sudden i heard like a crack, or a snap...then a grinding....i noticed that the rear end acted funny....driving on pavement is fine....driving on snow, you can hear something like grinding, or slipping...seems like on pavement where there's traction both wheels spin at the same rate..no grinding...on snow, there is less traction, and grinding....is power only going to one wheel?..do i have axle trouble??

Jack it up and check for play as well as any noise coming from the differential. Sounds like you have busted the rear gear.

The only way you could have power to just 1 rear wheel is if your axle was broken in half. Something else to take a look at is the u-joint that goes to your rear differential. You can get in to check it by loosening the boot on your swingarm.
