Got this one in today, and was really surprised. GBC has popped out a couple of 28" tires now. The Dirt D XT which looks like a Dirt Devil with 1.25" lugs, and the GBC Gator which looks a lot like a Mud Bug. Both are available in 26-28" in 10" and 12" widths.

This article didn't say much, but it did have lots of actual measurements and specs. With 1lb more air pressure on the same rim, my 27" Tri-Claws are just 1/4" lower than the 28" Outlaw. Also, the 28x12.5-12 Outlaw is the heaviest tire of the bunch. The overall weight of the 28" Vamp is higher, but it is on a 6lb. heavier steel rim. Actually, it would be 2lbs. lighter than the Outlaw. I guess the 10.5" wide Outlaw would still weigh less than the Vamp.

Of the 27" tires, the Blackwater XT was the lightest, but they only had a 26" mud bug to measure and it was on steel rims where the Blackwater was on aluminum.

These are the actual height measurements of the mounted tires.

Hrmm , I have 26x12 Mudbugs with 3PSI of air in them and they measure 24" . ( they only have 50km on them so they are not worn ) Will 2 more PSI make that much of a difference ?? and did the article say if this was measured while on a bike with the weight of it on them ? or just tire and rim with NO weight pushing down ?

 

I weighed my Outlaws on a digital scale and a spring scale and the 12.5 on RTP Magnums weighed 46 pounds and the 10.5 on ITP Magnums weighed 40 pounds even. I wonder how they weighed the tires?
My 25x9.5x12 vamps on ITP steel wheels were 36 pounds.

 

Kosaic- I would imagine that you would see a size increase by running 5lbs instead of 3. I can't stand much more than 5 on any tire because of the bouncy ride, but when I first got my Claws back from being mounted, they had 9lbs in them. They were a right at 28" tall in the rear with that much. The fronts were about an inch shorter. I wasn't about to run that pressure, but I did have to keep them close to the same diameter front and rear so I put 6lbs. in the fronts and about 4 in the rear. It also would have helped if the big Tri-Claws were on an inch wider rim than the skinnier Bi-Claws.

 

Also, I don't think they had them mounted on a quad when they measured them either. That will just about give you an extra inch with no weight.
