Hi! Sorry for the really basic questions.

I've changed brake pads on cars, where you take out a pin to remove the pads from the caliper assembly, but the setup on the Polaris seems different.

Do you have to take the caliper housing off to change the pads?

I noticed a little free play between the caliper housing and the rotor - is this normal? The pads aren't worn out yet, I'm just asking in advance...

Thanks!

Do not be afraid to ask basic questions. These often lead to the best threads. On brake calibers, I have only tore apart the ones on my 98, so they may be slightly different. I remove the caliber from the wheel assembly. There is only two bolts holding it on and it is easy to remove. Once off, it is easy to remove the pads and clean the calibers up before reassembling. Do not expect the stock pads to last long, especially if you ride in mud. Also, there is an adjustment screw on the back of the caliber that can be adjusted for the amount of travel on the brake pads. Hope this helps.

I had to remove that hex head set screw in order to get the old pads out on mine. I did it yesterday. Wasn't bad at all.

Yes, two bolts remove the caliper from the strut and off of the rotor.

There should be no play/wiggle of the caliper mounted on the stut.
