4X4 peformance?
#1
I'm in the market for a new one & noticed that Susuki doesn't have a locking diff. and I've read that some call it a "3" wheel drive. I was wondering how some owners think this has affected their performance?

First off, if you really want Suzuki, there is the Twin Peaks - a Kawi P700 clone. It does have a dif lock.
My Eiger would qualify for the critics as a "three wheel drive" but that is fairly misleading. While it is true that the LS front dif on the Eiger can spin the wheel with no traction this is not always the case. The front dif attempts to balance power between the two front wheels. I've had many times when slogging through mud as well as times pulling a loaded trailer uphill on slick ground when all four wheels are driving. Of course, having a locking front dif would make it a even better bike but I feel that the Eiger is an excellent mud machine. Sure, I've had a few times where I got stuck in deep soft mud. I've also made it through mud holes and then went back to pull out bikes equiped with a locker. In short, if you can find a bike you like and it has a locker, that's great, but don't let the lack of it keep you from getting what you want.

I hear you, that's why I'm asking for input. Thanks. I really wouldn't be doing much mud bogging. Mostly riding around the farm or on the dry trails, but it would be getting a lot of use in the snow. Plowing & getting me out on the lake. Actually, I had been looking at the "mid" sized quads but after reading how happy everyone was with their Eigers, it really got me thinking. Not sure about air cooled v.s. liquid.
