my clutch engages really far out too, but the pull is relatively easy. Perhaps your cable is starting to seize .. do you feel any slipping in the transmission or does the quad jerk really hard when you put it in gear? Except the reverse that is .. they all seem to give a bit of a jump when put into reverse for the first time that day ...

As for the adjustment ... I've only done that once before with the help of my clymer manual .. perhaps someone with more experience can tell you off the top of their head. Otherwise, if I get a chance I can PDF the pages from my manual for you.

Good luck!!

Check down at the clutch cover and make sure the arm that your clutch cable is connected to is in between the marks on the clutch cable. Also check that you have just enough room to put a nickel in between the clutch lever and the perch, if not adjust the amount of slack in your clutch cable.
