This thing is driving me nuts - It is extremely hard to get started - runs fine once it is running.
I originally had a no spark problem that I have corrected by replacing the coil and the CDI box - with used parts.
The manual keeps referring to a fat blue spark - mine is yellow -
The alternator checks good and I have removed it an sanded the rust off of the coils and the magnets in the flywheel.

Carb was cleaned and rebuilt - adjusted to specifications I generally hurt my arm trying to get this thing started.

I've started to remove the spark plug and squirt some gasoline into the cylinder before ever trying to pull the rope
it is still a chore ! any ideas ?

It may be flooding. Try turning off the fuel when you are not running it. If it is flooding you can hold the throttle wide open while attempting to start it. If it is flooding you should check the float in the carb.

You may also want to try a little hotter plug and be sure to gap it to specs.

You say that it runs fine once you get it started. I assume that it does not smoke and has good compression. If you have low compression due to a blown head gasket or bad rings it can be difficult to start.

Check the timing if you have it a degree or two off it could run great but be hard to start.
