'00 Scrambler - Right front wheel pulling
#1
Hello,
I recently purchased a 2000 Scrambler 500 4x4. When the AWD switch is in the off position and I am driving at a low speed the front right tire will pull to the right intermitantly. It feels as though the one side is trying to engauge. The rear tires also have traction at the time. Has anyone experienced these symptoms before?
Any advice would be appriciated.
Thank you.
Jim.

Start with the simple stuff. Change your hub fluid like Bing stated. You can use the Polaris hub fluid or Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Remove the cap on the hub and drain the fluid. Put the cap back on the remove the set screw on the hub. Fill it up so that it starts to leak out at a 4:00 position. Then you are set. Since the machine is 4 years old and you just got it, you dont know when the last time the hub fluid was changed. It is supposed to be changed every 100 hours. It is best to do it at least a few times a year cuz it gets dirty rather quick.

Sorry I took so long to get back to everyone. I went ahead and added hub fluid. The right front hub seemed to take a fair amount (Not that I know what a fair amount is). To make a long story short, it is still showing the same symptoms.
What should my next course of action be? I may be way off base here, but I read somewhere that is the AWD switch does not have power then AWD will never engague. If this is correct could I not eliminate a bad connection as being the problem by disconnecting the AWD switch and go for a ride to see if it still acts up?
Thanks again.

YT,
Since you are saying AWD engages on one side - at low speeds- without the AWD button - and have filled the fluid -
Next step would be to change the hub fluids - if this doesn't work, then the matter is internal - not in lack of power to a switch.
ps - Do you have a service manual? You're going to need one pretty much to go any further than changing fluids. We can still help, but the pictures and stuff in the manual will be a great asset when you start getting into the mechanical part.
AND welcome to the forum!

I will change the fluid this afternoon and take it for another spin. I do have a service manual, i'm hoping I will not need it in this case.
Thanks for the welcome! I will let you know my results.

In case anyone is still following this thread. I changed the hub fluid in both hubs. I've gone for 3 seperate rides all 40+ minutes each ride with no more symptoms
