can somone tell me or if possible explain me the 250 r and try to compare it to the raptor 660

 

comon guys this is a honda post!!!!!!!!

 

It's a 250 2 stoke that honda made for a few years back in the late 80's. Along with 2 other manufactures that made 250 2 strokes. It was the slowest. But with aftermarket suspension made an excelent mx'r. It has smooth power through out it's power band.

Compared to the raptor.
1.) It handles better, sitts lower.
2.) Has no electric start.
3.) Close to the same speed with less then half the cc's.
4.) Less tourque
5.) Looks kinda ugly (Just an opinon, sure I'll catch hell)
6.) In good shape it will be worth more money.
7.) Until the 450 r it was the only thing that honda riders had to argue with yamaha riders about.
8.) Probably breaks less
9.) Parts are getting harder to find.
10.) New went for a fraction of a raptor.
11.) Years from now it will still be remembered.
12.) Dosen't vibrate and sound like it is falling apart.
Thats all I can think of.

These where honest opinions Please dont start an argument either way.

That's great. Actually I have had less break on my 86 250R than on my 2002 Rappy, but yes, parts are getting harder to find.

 

Honda still pretty much makes most replacement parts to almost build a whole new 250r. You can buy all the parts to build a complete new engine.

 

yeah i havent had any trouble so far in getting parts for mine; of course, i havent needed alot of parts though. I just replaced stuff, not of necessity, but for peace of mind.

I might start some crap with this, but back in 1990(?), the 1986 trx 250r was rated the #1 used quad to buy- the engine was called 'bulletproof'. I believe it. mine is 18 years old and I bought it used (in exellent condition) in 2002 afer the guy just did its first top end job. its a great bike, the quintessential quad no matter what anybody says.

 

you mentioned that it was the slowest 250 made in the 80's. I have a copy of the 1986 dirt wheels that compared the 250r with the suzuki 250 and they said the R was faster. Of course this is from a magazine and should not be taken as fact I just thought it was interesting.

I have an 86 and yes it is kinda ugly, it does vibrate, and it does break all the time, but......... When it is running, I'll smoke any POS raptor any day.
