Default How do atv boots compare to shoes??

All I want to know is if the size fits the same as shoes..I usually wear a 11 and a half or 12 depending on what brand of shoe..so do I get a size 12 in riding boots or is there a difference??

You wrote it. Probably depends on the brand of boot.

I wear a 10 1/2 -11 shoe and I've heard that you should get a size bigger
boot, I went and got a 12 boot just in case even though when I tryed
a pair on at my local dealer the size 11 fit me but I didnt have my pants
inside the boots, or a thick pair of sox on.. The size 12 fits me prety good,
and I know I'm definatly better off with the bigger size boot.

I have Alpine Star boots that I use for my MX racing!! The boot SHOULD NOT be loose in ANY way!! The boot is to restrict your ankle from moving in any way but up and down when you changing gears!!! The boot should fit rather tight, not so incredibly tight that it cuts blood flow off to your feet lol! But you shouldnt be able to wiggle your heel! Most of the time, most people that I know lets say for example they wear a size 12, they would buy size 11 1/2 or either an 11! I went the half size down! Just go and try some on like you would at a Shoe store, but remember it can't be loose or it pretty much defeats the purpose that the boot was designed for which is plain and simple ANKLE PROTECTION!!!!

Thanks guys for the impute...I'm going to try some out and see how they fit...as for can you wear boots just for riding..h*ll ya! The reason why I'm getting some is because I just trail ride and after riding over my ankle and feet a couple of times I figured I should get some support and protection down on the feet...

once again thanks for the info..time to go shopping now!

If you are thinking of buying boots by mail order (because of a better price), go to a dealership and try on the same pair and be sure you get the size right, before you mail order them.

TellicoGrizz has it right about ankle support!!! I always find it humerous when someone posts about their new boots being stiff. What did you buy them for if not for protection???

I am an Alpinestars guy. I have a pair of fairly flexible Tech-4's (with ATV sole) for technical trail riding on the utilities. This is a compromise in boot support, because in this kind of riding I am off the bike pretty often (helping other riders, moving rocks, scouting routes, etc.). For desert cross-country, I wear Tech-6's, which are quite a bit stiffer and have quite a bit more support. If I was racing, jumping free-style, or doing something unusually high risk, I would chose the Tech-8.
