650 noise at idle fom belt
#1
The noise started as a chirping sound, the dealer said it needed a new belt due to it being loose They had to reset limp mode and never checked belt tightness, so I smoked the belt. After a new belt it still squeals. Any help?

dont touch it! if its a light squeal or chirp its letting you know the belt is a little tight mine did the same thing and it still chips a little now . how you can tell if your belt is slipping etc is remove your storage lid and flip it over you will see belt dust there if very little dont worry, if its coverd like caked you got problems the belt in the 650 same as p700 is quite a strong belt dont believe everything you read or hear ,my moto is believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see

Thats some good info on the belt dust on the bottom of the storage lid!! I was wondering what that was the other night and had no clue till now!!! Thanx a million! I am getting it serviced soon (100 mile service). The mechanic at the dealer is a friend of mine. He said he would put the primary and secondary springs in when he adjusts the belt!!

Watching all the threads, I now have 80 miles on mine and I took it back to the dealer and had him to remove a shim as the engine braking I thought was a little weak. The belt now "squeaks" a little at idle, I'm going riding tomorrow so I will see how it does. I had saw in a previous post that if it has a slight squeak at idle that the belt should last a long time. The problem about the limp mode is what really scares me, I keep thinking about hitting a hill climb pretty hard and getting about 3/4 way up and it going into limp mode. Can't imagine that would be too pretty.
