Default 400EX clutch upgrades...NEED HELP!!!

what is the benefit of new clutch plates, stiffer springs, and a new clutch basket? what will it do for me? right now i'm upgrading for performance, so if its jus goin to prolong the eventual replacement, i'm not goin to worry about it. also, i have a 300EX with whitebros e-series silencer, and a modified airbox. you have to slip the clutch a lot to be able to get the thing moving even in first gear. it didn't used to be like this. what do i do about it? also, it has a lot of trouble starting and running cold, ne suggestions? thanx for the help.

Default 400EX clutch upgrades...NEED HELP!!!

I have a Hinson Billet Clutch Basket and Pressure Plate. The only reason I got it was because the stock clutch wasn't up to the task of the extra power. I don't really think that there is much of a performance gain in a different clutch. The only thing I have noticed is that the clutch plates last alot longer and, the clutch action is smoother with much less slipping compared to stock. Stiffer springs will help the clutch to bite better. That means less slipping of the clutch, especially at higher RPM's. The downside to stiffer springs is the clutch lever is harder to pull in.

As for the 300EX the only thing I can think of is to check the clutch plates and see if they are still good. If they aren't replace them and all should be well. The starting could be from jetting or maybe the plug is fouled.

This is the second time I typed this so I may have forgot something. My first post was much better but I hit the backspace key and it took me a page back.

Hope this helps.

ok, thanx. i don't think i have too many mods that add a lot of power, although my quad is suprisingly fast for what it has. i'll try changin the plug in the 300ex. the plug in my 400ex got fouled and it used to start pretty easy, but with the new plug, it starts immediately on the first try, even when its cold. i never woulda thought a $1 item could make such a difference! lol. thanx again for the info.
