How to remove starter clutch??

How to remove starter clutch??
I have an 87 warrior. Do i need a puller for this job? also, is there a way of checking it to see if it needs replaced?
when i push the elec start button, the starter spins, but the motor doesn't. i pulled it spart. the flywheel is spinning too.
any thoughts?
