looking to buy a used 300ex, need advice
#1
I am looking at a 1996 300ex for my little brother. what are the things I should look out for?? it starts right up, runs good, no smoke at all, brakes work good, clutch works good, has new tires and wheels, but the plastics are shot and will need to be replaced. are there any problematic things on 300ex's? any advice it greatly appreciate, thanks.

there are really no know problems mine runs great. if you look at the case where the shifter is the paint might be worn off. if is not worn off it probably wasn't ridden much and also the paint on the very front of the check that paint too. look over the frame and also look at the tie-rods. you won't regret buying one.

no mods except brand new wheels (not sure what kind), and new tires, Fast Trekker fronts and 20" Shredders on the rear. I can get it for $1200, but I will need to get plastic, which I am finding will be expensive. I think it is a good deal and I am gonna buy it, other 300ex's in the paper are going from $2000-$2500

I'm kinda in the same shape as you. I just bought a 300ex that the plastic is rough. E-bay has been the cheapest place I've found for new plastic. I'm having problems with the front brakes. They seem to have alot of pad left, just don't bite very good. Do you guys know if the front calipers or the master cyclinder can be rebuilt? Is there something else that I'm not thinking about that is causing the problem? I have bled the time out of them with no better results.
