Need a little help. My daughter was riding my Dad's 2000 model AC300 4wd this past week when all the sudden the front bakes just quit working. Here's what I found when looking at it briefly. The front brake reservoir was pretty low and with the top off the reservoir, I noticed what looked like very small metal particles floating in the fluid. I don't know if the pads are worn too low and the fluid has displaced the pad space which might have let air get into the lines or what. And by the way, how do you bleed the front brakes, I couldn't find any bleeders on the front calipers?

 

Sorry, don't know but I am interested in how to bleed the brakes so here is a bump to the top.

The bleeders are there- they may be incrusted in dirt but they are there. They are located on the top outside of the caliper usually under little black protective caps unless they have fallen off. As for the loss of brakes- the hand brake opeates all 3 hydraulic brakes (2 front 1 rear) and the foot brake is a mechanical rear brake all by its self. If you run them too far down into the pad backers I have seen the piston in the caliper come out so far that it actually starts leaking fluid out past the seals causing you to loose brakes. The best thing to do is pull the calipers off and clean them up. Check the pads for wear and check the pistons for scoreing too and if they are scored replace the pistons and seals- its not a bad idea to replace the seals anyway- its just cheap insurance. If the brake rotors are really grooved up they should be replaced too. Bleading the brakes on that is the same as bleeding them on a car- pop the cap off the master cyl., top it off with fluid and pump a few times then hold the lever down and open the bleeder- some fluid should come out. Then close the bleeder while still holding the lever to the handle bars and pump a few times more and repeat untill you don't get any more air out of the line. The brakes may not feel as firm and stop you as well at first but with a little riding they should wear in and get back to normal.
