Default 04 grizzly maintenance

I have an 04 grizzly and the owners manual says the valves need to be adjusted after 20 hours. I have been told by three people with 03 grizzlies that they didn't do it for 150 hours and that if the engine doesn't get noisy or lose power not to worry about it. What should I do and what could happen if I don't have them adjusted at 20 hours ??

I would at least check them, The intakes on my raptor were always a little out by the time they were do, and I would guess it would be no different on the Grizz since it has the same head.

I change my oil myself at 20 hrs, let the dealer do it at 40 and check the valves. I'm at about 65 right now, need to change it.... 20 hrs later I'll take it in again.

I figure, what's 100 bux to make sure my bike's in top shape? I dropped 6500 on it, I can pay for proper maintenace. I dont' really put alot of hours on it though

Thanks to all who replied. I figure the same thing for 100-150 it is worth it when you pay that kind of money for them. I had an earlier post about a fuel leak and it has been fixed. I called the dealer at 8:30 am and they had me bring it in at 11:00 and it was done by 1:00. There was a little piece of something in the needle and seat so they cleaned the whole carb and it works great. This is my first four wheeler and so far I love it.

If your valves tighten up you can end up with burnt valves or worse, a damaged head. A local dealer in Northern VA quoted me $125 to adjust the valves. I purchased a service CD and did the job myself. It is not a hard job, but I have done this type of work before. If you are handy with a wrench it is an option.

I changed the oil myself at 20 hrs. and will take the bike in to the dealer at 40 too. I need to know if the dealer/factory sets the jetting for a certain elevation or what? Do they use just one certain jet for all quads coming out of the factory or do they take in to consideration where the quad is going? I live/ride between 6000' and 8000'. What would be the proper size jet and screw adjustment?

I adjusted my valves at 120 hours. They were tighter than spec, but not touching.
It is not difficult to do. I would recommend getting a copy of the service manual not only for this procedure, but for any other service that you do on it too.

As far as your jetting, I would talk to your local dealer. They should know the proper settings for your elevation and should have installed the proper jet and needle setting when they assembled the wheeler.
