Default some questions about key switch..I don't know anything about it

Ok,,heres the thing...my quad isn't getting any electicity through it.. the battery is good...I used an ohm meter and checked for juice and the spot were I'm missing is right were all the wires go together in the front face plate...and one of the main wires is from the key switch...I have a 2000 scrammy 500.....I can turn the ignition switch on and use the pull starter to start it....but,,,I can't use the starter...I don't have lights...can't put it into 4x4...and the fan wont run on the radiator because its electric...could I have a bad key switch which would cause all of these problems??? Need help and info!

You dont evenhave any head lights or anythign when u get it running? Thats not good. lol, but it sounds like it could possibly be your stator or this one is just a guess but a closed cyloniod.

I checked the stator and its still good...and all of these wires run together (key switch, lights, 4x4, fan, and starter) Thats why it gives me the idea that the key switch is bad and is causing these electrical devices not to work...but I really don't know exactly what the key switch is for..I can run my quad without the key switch thats why I'm thinking that the key switch runs all the electrical components....and if that is right then it has to be the key switch.

Your entire circuit is protected by a self resetting breaker in a sealed plastic pouch. The problem is, some of them are not sealed very well and yours is most likely full of water, corroded and in need of replacement. Best bet it to cut it out and replace it with a waterproof 20 amp fuse.

Ya,,I thought of that the first time..to check the main fuse right after the battery..so I cut open that plastic...no water or anything was in there..so I tuck the fuse out and tested the fuse..the fuse was good so thats not the problem...I've been trying to find out what the heck the key switch is for..but thanks for the info guys..I just need some more info!

Well there has to be a few fuzes on there somewhere a guy would think. try spraying some W-d40 in the key switch if ya can, that will illimnate all if any watter in there, and thatmay hopefully fix your problem.

The ignition wiring is fairly simple. You need to identify the hot lead at the ignition plug which unfortunately has changed colors over the years, most likely solid red but could be yellow, test to find it. When the key is turned to the on position it sends juice to the black/red which energises the entire quad but goes through the pouch breaker before being recieved by the components of the quad. When you select start, power is sent to the white/red to crank it over. (juice to the starter) As mentioned, check the ground also (brown wire)

I still think it's a pouch breaker problem, you do know there are 2 of those don't you? One for the fan and one for the rest of the system. When you test for the power lead at the ignition and if you cannot find one carrying power with the ignition off then you need to find a break in the line by tracing it down. If you do have power at the ignition, turn it on and test to see if you are now getting power on the red/black, if not, change the switch. If there is power then you need to locate that second breaker or a break in the line somewhere. Good luck.
