Default RWR piston rings... Gapless or gap??ASAP!

DSaholic and I are putting his motor back together as I type and I was getting ready to file fit his rings and wanted to check the fit of the original RWR rings on his hicomp piston, there is no gap on the original rings??? This piston was bought used from another forum member so we don't have instructions on ring installation, I need some input ASAP on wither or not these rings need to be gapped or not- I've heard of gapless rings but never used any - does anyone know if these are gapless??
thanks

Gapless rings MUST be file fitted. Call Ron Wood for specs.

Hold on! .017 is tight even if you were running standard rings. This is way tight on gapless rings. Are you running gapless top rings or gapless 2nd rings? I suspect you are running the gapless top rings (because several years ago, I spent countless hours on the phone and shipping ringsets back and forth with the mfg to get it right for a ds650 - and yes, it is annoying that others get to benefit for hours and $shipping, but that's part of the business). The gapless top rings should be .022 MINIMUM.

You wouldn't believe how many motors come in for repair that gave up the ghost long before they should have, and the reason for the failure was improper ring gap! And I'm talking about "professional" engine builders.

Unless RW is manufacturing rings, they are Total Seal ringsets. But, you are correct, you should trust the source of your parts for technical info. Sorry if I confused things.
