Default Looking for tire suggestions to replace the stockers

I bought my 400 mainly for transportation at car shows, however I feel it will end up being used for a lot of trail riding now that I see, again, what fun they are. Any way I have been seeing these posts on the tires. When I test drove it I felt the push in the front end when on solid ground/pavement. I wrote it off to the full time 4X4. I am starting to get the impression that there is some hope of improvement if I swap the tires and ditch the Goodyears in favor of some bias plys.

What are atr's, I have seen them mentioned? Any one have a link or a full name that I can search on?

Any other suggestions. I want to keep some good off road ability but I would like to find something that I will not just shred over the course of along weekend at a car show or the track where it will see some pavement time.

Any thought on just changing out the fronts right now to save a few $$.

Brent

They would be referreing to ITP Holeshot ATR'Swhich you can see here. As for just switching the front as long as you stay with the same diameter tire you have now then go ahead

The atr's are great. If you think you may be getting into a little sloppier stuff than dry dirt trails, take a look at the maxxis bighorn radials. Great tire, sturdy, long wearing, and ran by mike penland to the last few gncc utility championships. Radial 6 ply tire and cool RWL.

Thanks guys! Any more suggestions?

Also, both of these are radials. It seems that everytime I see a thread on the soft sidewall the conversation leads toward bias ply tires. Is it safe to assume I just need a quality replacement regardless of type?

I would be interested to know if anyone uses their atv in a fashion similar to myself. I see it spending most of its time off road but as I said I don't want to trash a good set of tires the first cople of weekends running around a large parking lot at a car show or at the track. I may hav to ask the question up in the Untility or General forums to get a larger cross section of users.

Thanks again,

Brent

I still have the stock dunlops on mine, but i have read that the GBC Dirt Devils and Gators wear really well, ou can find them on the site that my other link goes too. I have a friend with Kenda Rampages(which I have never heard of before) on his TRX300FW that he just picked up, they have great traction and handling, not sure about the wear factor yet though

From what you have described, the atr's seem like a good choice. A set of goodyear or similar stock type tire may do well for you too.

There is always the option of on road tires. Kits that run street tires on the atv.

The gators work well on hard pack and excellent in mud and soupy stuff. They are 6 ply and have great sidewall strength.Ive had mine on for about 1000 miles and they are showing little to no wear at all.
They do however feel like tractor tires at speeds below 5mph. Its a great tire for the money.25" tires have shallow tread,26,27,28" all have 1 1/4 " tread.
