Default SP 700 High Altitude Tuning

Looking for info on tuning my 04 Sp 700(non-EFI) for high altitude riding. Went west last year and hit 5000, 6000 feet and it just dogged.

Maybe you should drop the main and pilot one size. Not much you can do about the power loss, but you can jet for the richer mixture you will experience and at least try to get the most out of the motor. My dealer puts the next heavier spring in and thats it - I am still running stock jetting. It does OK at altitude, but you can definitely feel the power loss by 12000 feet.

Polaris makes what they call a high altitude kit. its a leaner main (155) and some lighter weights for the clutch. the factory set up is for 0 to 3000 only. it makes a huge difference.

Why would a quad lose power at high altitude? This is something ive never understood.
