Default Decision time

Sold my boat so I've got some cash to work with. Question I have is will new tires ( Mudlites ? ) make a big, big difference in the steering etc of my 650 or should I wait until the Goodyears wear out ? One thing I am concerned about is the soft sidewalls and the rocks ( Rubicon ) I'll be exposing the stock tires to. Is the difference big enough to justify the cost now or would you wait ? Many thanks for any thoughts. I'm also open to any thoughts about something other than the Lites. Most use will be dry trails, some rocks, some mud etc.

The mudlite is a soft tread compound. I wouldnt be nearly as concerned about sidewall punctures as munching up the tread on the rocks. IMO, you need a harder rubber.

The GY Radial MTs need to go.
I use the GY Mudrunner in the 26" size as my winter tire but it is a 4ply rated tire, I have never had any tire problem ever with the 4ply Murdunners. I have ridden the High Rocky Mountains in the Silverton,Colorado area for years on a Prairie 650 & the Mudrunners, this Silverton area will push your tires to their limits as some of the trails can be rough & very rocky.
If you want to go with a 6 ply, check out the Dirt Devil XT in the 26" size, I've heard good reports on them too.

Good choice on the MudLites. And about the tread compound being soft, ... this is true, but the soft rubber makes them stick to rock like glue. The Mudlites will work very well on the Rubicon, and don't you buy tires based on how well they work instead of how long they will last anyway?

And just one comment on the Dirt Devils, ... I was down at the local aftermarket ATV parts business the day before yesterday, and had been looking at all of the different ATV tires they had lined up on their tire racks. I could not help but notice that the 26" Dirt Devils were at least an inch shorter than the 25" Radial Long Horns that they were right next to. Outerlimit, Think the Mudlites will be a good all around tire. Hey, I like your photo page. Your Rubicon is one hell of a Jeep !! Ive got a 55 CJ I built up but not sure how much use it will get now that all my buddys have gone to quads ! Thanks again.
