Default 2 to 4 stroke tb

How hard would it be to swap a 250 tb engine with a larger 4 stroke polaris engine? Also, would it connect and work with everything on the tb now? (tranny is what most concerns me) Now those of you who have helped me before know that i am very tech. inclined, so could anyone do it, or do u really have to know a lot about quads. (my dad knows some things about engines so he could/will help)

I was just wondering because of the new 2-stroke laws comming up, i wouldnt mind having having a 4-stroke. Does anyone know where one could buy just an engine, carb, and mounting hardware for maybe a 400 4-stroke engine and how much it would be.

This is just an idea for now, but i would like to look into it in the near future. Thanks so much for the help in advance!

Nick

I think the hardest part would be mounting the radiator because the 400 motor is liquid cooled and the 250 is air cooled.

I think you can get one in. The best bet would be to find a Scrammy motor. I only say that for the fact it has the same frame as the TB. Most important thing there is you'll need it's radiator. I don't know if the SP400 radiator will fit a TB frame. You can check the part numbers. Keep your eye out on ebay. There are also some quad wrecking yards that can help. Ask your dealer about them or do a search on the net.

sweetness, i think partsland.com has engines for sale, but not to sure. As for the radiator, could it be welded to the front of my frame and then have a guard made for it?

why not just sell the trailblazer and get a 4-stroke quad?

just got a car, so cash is short and i was thinkin it would be cheaper to do this then get a new quad. Also, i would want to do it in a month or so, but a new quad might take a year or so cuz i want a rappy, pred., or 450r.

Ok, sorry to dig up old threads, but i just checked out my dealer and he said that he would charge me half of the price of the quad for the engine. Is this fair? I can go to jegs and buy a Edelbrock Performer 350/ 320HP Crate Engine for about $4000, but have to pay $2500 or more for a 500 cc atv engine. As for ebay, cant find any polaris engines, but would a 400ex engine work? Thanks for the help, and if anyone knows how i can get an engine for cheaper, please tell me!

do you happen to live in the Maine/New Hampshire area? If so, check Uncle Henry's (yes, that makes me sound like a hick, but if you live here, you KNOW what Uncle Henry's is) If you don't, try East Coast ATV. There are a salvage yard, so they must have parts you need.

Ebay for one. My dealer gets a lot of totaled quads. They canibalize them to make others work. I think a salvage title type deal. You might come up with something like that. There are a few national quad graveyards as well. Your dealer should know of them. That's were they come up with parts that are no longer offered from the factory.
