I saw some john deeres at home depot. (lawn tractors) I was wondering if they where real john deered or re-badged lawn mowers? anyone know?

They are not the true JOHN DEER. If you look at them close the construction is not up to par with the real thing. Note the price diff. (Like my grandad says you get what you pay for)

 

My john deere mower is still running strong too, its from the 70's.

 

I just bought a L-110 John Deere from a local dealer 2 weeks ago. It's the same as they sell at Home Depot, but figured I'd get it from the local dealer for service reasons, etc. I like it so far. As far as quality, I'll just have to wait and see. It's obvious from comparing it to my father-in-laws (I forget which model his is) John Deere that there are differences, but they do seem to be made well. I think the main differences are a belt driven auto tranny compared to hydrostatic, and instead of an electronic engaging PTO it's lever activated. I figured I'd give it a shot. If it gives me any trouble I have a 2 year warranty or I'll just trade for the more expensive model, but I couldn't pass up the near $2000 savings. So far I am very satisfied with it. The L-110 that I have has a 17.5 Kohler engine, which I prefered over the Briggs & Straton and a 42" deck.

 

Yes they are John Deere's, true they are not made quite as sturdy as the more expensive units. John Deere felt they were missing out on the average home owner that buys from Sears, Tru-Value, Tractor Supply, ETC.... If you look close you will find that they are made better than the MTD and Murry units that they are competing with. Deere has done this for sometime now, remember STX 38's for $1999.00. The L100 series is a cross of the STX and Sabre mowers(those were the funny green color).

 

John Deere asked its consumers what it wanted in product. It was a bigger deck, more horsepower and lower cost. So they made it that way but with a cheaper stamped frame. But it is a John Deere.

 

My wife works at Home Depot, and I asked her about them. The only thing is that since Home Depot sells twice as many more as the regular John Deere dealers because with the credit card deals that John Deere will not cover warranty on these machines, but they are John Deere products.

 

What model would that be?
