I saw a smoke coming from my AWD switch on mr 2000 Xpedition 425. The light subsequently went out, and the AWD will not engage. I checked the switch , and it apears that there is a wire with a possible fusable ink that looked burnt. I soldered it and it still will not engage in AWD. Is there any fuse/breaker between the power source, and switch or do you think that the switch is shot? I checked the voltage in the wire to the switch and it is 1.5 volts should I be getting 12 v to this, or is it reduced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not really an electrical guy...but I'm in the same boat. I was riding my scrammy then I went through a small creek an next thing I knew I didn't have anything...couldn't engage my 4x4..no lights..no electric start..but the battery is still good...one thing I do know...there should be a main curcuit breaker (fuse) off of your battery..and I know that if you get a short in one of your wires it can screw alot of things up..as for it reading 1.5 volts..check your manual...most of my component wont run on 12 volts...it will be much lower...but good luck on your quad..I had to take mine to the shop..hopefully I'll get her back soon with out my wallet getting raped either[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]

 

I've got a similar problem to you, quadracer. On my Sportsman my 4x4, lights, gauges, electric start will cut on and off from time to time. It happens alot when the lights are being used. If the lights are off, it hardly ever does. Would like to know what the problem is myself. My battery still reads twelve volts, but I'm no electrician, so I'm not much help to you guys, but I'd appeciate any help I could get. Good luck to you guys as well.
