Default Proper Gearing For 2004 DS 650 Baja

I am purchasing a new 2004 DS 650 baja and would appreciate some guidance on proper gearing. I will be riding primarily on the sand. I have been told to go with one tooth less on the counter sprocket. Does this sound about right?. I plan on running 22 inch hauler extremes on the rear and I weigh 240 pounds.

Thank you in advance

The 22 in tires change the gearing already. I would stay with that on a stock DS

If you want to climb big dunes 15/43, if you want to go fast on the flats stock 16/40 or 17/40, general all round 15/40. The 15/43 will require a new chain.

Thanks for your Advice. Do you how many teeth the stock sprockets have front and back?

Thanks

IMO 15/42 is perfect on a stock engine DS with 22" Haulers. Stock chain can also be used. I also don't think a stock engined DS will gain any top end speed on sand with 16/40 and especially 17/40, 5th gear would probably be useless.
