Default Got the Lt250

Hello everyone, Ive been reading these post for a while now, they helped me decide on teh Lt250 r.

I picked up an 88 lt250 in nice shape over all, runs and starts perfect. Now that ive gotten used to being on it, have some questions.

1. Pulled the plug yesterday, after former owner told me to mix at 32:1, ive run about 1 and a half tank at that mix, plug was black and all oily. Should i use less oil? look into jetting?. I need some advice, im quite capable mechanically but the 2 stroke is a new take on engines for me.

2. Looks like after my second outing the stator cover cracked right where one of the bolst holds it, next to the front sproket. Not leaking bad, but bad enough to bother me. IS this common? Does anyone besides OEM have a stator cover? I dont want some $300 polished one . simple is fine.

3. This thing runs very well, however, after seeing the posts about the powervalve , specifically that you should see it move through the glass , I looked, sure enough no movement. This lack over powervalve was again shown when i dragged a 400 ex with no mods and could barely keep on him. I have a FMF fatty pipe on it now and an open air box, Im hoping the powervalve is all gunked up or stuck,Any thoughts?
I know the powervalve on a slrd is similiar and they can get all clogged with oil, anyone who has had theres not work let me know please.

Thats about all for now, thanks in advance, and i look forward to hearing what you guys have to say.

howdy i also have an 88lt250 and yes there wicked fast when runnin properly. as for your ststor cover you shouldnt be having any leaks at all cause theres nothing in there to leak except the crank seal. pull the thing off and see whats leaking? as far as the premix goes i run 40 to 1 with avgas and my plug is a nice lite brown color. i would start by cleaning the carb good then new plug then mess with the jetting. also make sure your air cleaner is clean.now for the good stuff. to pull out your powervalve you must pull the jug but first take off the little sight glass and try it by hand. the lt is a reallysimple thing to work on if you got any common sense really. thisboard is a life saver though. i hope this helps..

IT should bother you alot more if you see liquid coming from that side of the engine. YOure stator cover has dry equipment behind it, if you see liquid of any kind your cases may have a crack and yes that would suck. Take a better look find out for sure what is happening. If it indeed is just youre stator cover find one on e-bay for like 50 bucs and polish it yourself. Buy a polishing wheel about 50 bucs and 20 bucs worth of equipment and you can polish your whole quad practically. The engine is all aluminum! i know some people that have polished everything. YOu should try a couple things before you change your dilution ratio. Assuming youve done routine maintenace first like wash/oil filter, change plug , then lower the needle on your carb and see if that helps. otherwise i run 38 to 1.

Your LT should eat that 400ex like penny candy. Since you've been running rich, take off your silencer and check to make sure you don't have a spark arrestor screen that's plugged up. That'll make it run rich and weak. The powervalve moves when you hit the throttle. Looking thru that little window you have to crack the throttle open from idle and you'll see it move up & down. They do get stuck, maybe more often when the mixture is rich like your 32-1. I used to run Bel Ray in mine and it always gummed up the power valve. Yamalube 2R keeps it free now.
