Ok i know that the 85-86 LT250 cylinders are the same. How do the 87-92 cylinders differ. I think i have an 87 LT250. The cylinder water jacket is cracked so it doesnt hold anti freeze. I will need another cylinder. I have another LT250 basket case with cylinder but the reed cage assembly is larger than the one that came off the 87. Will this work on the 87 motor? What year is this cylinder 88-92? The cylinder fit on the 87 lower and looks the same except for the larger reed cage assembly. Thanks in advance

the reed cage is the only difference that i know of between the two('87 vs '88-92). if you have the whole setup, run the newer one. more parts are available for the '88-92.

The 88-92 cylinder will fit the 87 engine. The only difference is the reed area. I have an 87 LT250R, and when I bought it, it already had the 88 Cylinder on it. When buying top end parts be sure to tell them that you have an 88-92 cylinder.

Sounds like you already have the 88-92 cylinder.

87 has an 8 petal reed setup, 88 on has a 6 petal reed. Porting is way differnt on the 87, the piston is also different to match the port setup. The head cumbustion chamber shape is different on the 87 vs the 88 though you can probably interchange.

Power wise they are similiar, just get a matching setup and I'm sur eyou'll be ok.
