Default 300ex rebuild or 350x

I need some advice. I have a 96 300ex that I bought recently that does not run. The transmission seems to be fine, but the motor won't turn over. I assume it is locked up. The bike is in fairly good condition and I would like to get it running (instead of parting it out). Should I get the engine rebuilt (possibly 330 kit) or try the 350x motor swap. This bike is an extra bike so it doesn't have to be finished soon, but I would like to have something fun to ride (somewhere between my quadracer and completely stock 300ex,performance wise) when it is finished. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I have never had a bike engine rebuilt so what kind of money are we talking to get that done. The majority of my riding is recreational riding on trails. Thanks.

If the engine is seized requiring crankwork along with a new piston kit and bore job plus other parts........you would be looking about the same price range whether you go with a 350X engine or rebuild the stock one.

There are usually at least one brand new 350X engine on ebay eah week and they generally sell between $600 and $1000 depending on if they are letting the carb and oil cooler go with it.

One other thing to add to the 350X onversion is the exhaust. If you or someone you know feels confident in building one fine, but if not, Powroll has the exhaust that bolts right up to this conversion.
