28" tires on 700 EFI
#2
Scott...
I talked to the dealer about fitting 28" 589s on the efis. He said I do even better that that...he showed me. They fit ok. The only thing that has to be done is to trim just a little on the fender at the bottom. He used a Drimel tool which made a smooth straight cut. The 589s were mounted on the new c-series bright polished alum. rims......made the efi look meaner and badder....
good luck

Scott,
Just thought you might like to know I have 27" Mud-Lites on c-series type 5 and they rub on the trail. I have an 04.5 sp600. i know this isnt an efi700, and if the bikes are significantly different in clearance maybe you wont have the problem. However I thought the frame and clearance were all the same. I have already had the fenders trimmed, and they still rubAny large bump or a steep decline were the weight is forward I hear them rub. I don't have a lift kit, and it does look good. If that is ok with you then maybe it wont be a problem. Just thought you would like the info.
P.S. The dealer told me they wouldn't rub. And they don't on flat ground but who rides on flat ground

are you guys using spacers? if so, how much? 1 1/2" , 2"?
on my old SP500 i used 26" Outlaws with 2" spacers and they would rub almost all the time on the front fenders (near floorboards). took a LOT of fun out of riding. in fact, over a slight jump it hit the plastic so hard it cracked it!
i'm with MudTroop on this one. they will rub and be a pain! maybe Progressive HD front springs would help? 28" are great looking but i don't want to drive around like a slow grandma because any other speed will make them hit. now that's just no fun.

Since the trim I have been able to live with it. However I'll be upset if my plastic cracks because of it like mtpockets said his did. I'm not much of a high speed rider, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't torque me off when I hear the rubbing. I'm in the position that I've already spent the money and don't want to not use the equipment. I do a lot of trail and hill climbing so I didn't want to put in the spacers up front because I felt it might increase the rigidity of the handling. In other words afraid it'll be more likely for front end to climb up on me. If I had it to do all over I would probably just get 26's, but it has a lot to do with your riding style. If your just gonna get in the mudholes 27's would prob be a good choice. Good Luck!

I have 26" mud lites on my 700 EFI and they will hit the fenders if I go into something really hard. Not sure if I would recommend going to a 28" tire with out a lift kit then some stronger cv's. A lot of guys just jack them up and start twisting off cv's on the front.

I dont know how much different the 700 efi could be, but my 02 700 has a 1.5 inch lift kit and 28s and they rub against the front of the running boards on the slightest bumps. And with 1.5 spacers they just clear the tie rods on stock rims. Beware, if you run 28s with stock front axles, you will break them. The front axles are puny, and the aftermarket ones arent real hard to break either.
