Need Advice on this Kawasaki KXT250 Tecate

You guys think this is worth buying to play around on with my son?
The guy wants $350 for it, it has a polished triple tree, head, and some other little stuff, freshly painted frame, low profile rear plastics, almost new seat, new kenda scorpion rear tires, answer bars, it's also bored .10 over, dg pipe and silencer in raw.
It needs a stator, flywheel and a chain..
(An additional $200 for the stator and flywheel from http://www.rickystator.com, and the chain can be picked up from Home Depot for $24.)

So what do you guys think, is it worth the $574 investment??
The owner said it has about an hours run time on the new motor, but I read on the forums that the cylinders on these have a coating and require special attention from the machine shop when boring, will someone please elaborate on this.
Comments appreciated..

I say the trike is worth it!!!!! But you bring up a great point on the cylinder. give it a day or two and I'm sure someone on here can give you more details on the coating.

I'll put this way if you don't want it send me the info and I'll take it off his hands, IMO its worth every penny. The coating he is reffering to is Nikasil coating, it makes a less restrictive surface for the the piston therefore it revs quicker and also gives the engine more hp. If you need a phone# to a company that handles nikasil coating let me know, im going to have to send in a Tiger engine for the same process and if the cylinder is like mine and only needs to be coated you are looking at about $150.00.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your support and to lend some clarification to my inquires.
I am new to the forum but have always been an ATV enthusiast, and this trike will likely be the start of a collection of ATVs. I have an appointment to look at it in the morning cash in hand.

Yeah I love tecates and thats a pretty good deal. But you must also remember that parts are harder to come by and you have to watch ebay like a hawk for stuff..........peace

It needed a bit more TLC than I had anticipated. One of the stator's threaded retaining bosses was destroyed along with one of the water coolant elbow's threaded retaining bosses and each of these are cast into the aluminum motor case upper and lower. They could be repaired buy building up sufficient material with a tig and then retapped. The other problems that screamed for immediate attention was the rear hydraulic brake cylinder was leaking, and the throttle cable adjustment arbor was broken at the handgrip, both of which would not constitute safe riding. Other than these items it was missing a variety of bolts, in the fuel tank mount, coil mount, strut mounts, it really looked as if it had been taken apart and reassembled in desperation. All in all nothing I couldn't easily handle, but it's not a project I am looking to take on. I wanted something I could take my son out on occasionally, not another project.
Estimated cost for the neccesary components to fix it properly would be in the $600 range and with this model being virtually impossible to source parts for, I think I'm gonna let it slide.

go to www.3wheelor.org or www.3wheelerworldforums.com, most have or know where to get all of the parts you need.

Hate to hear that, In the pictures it looked like it was ready to get on and go. To alot of people it is still well worth the money though. Good luck hunting something else up...
