Default This skid plate install is killing me!

I have the right side stock skid off but I can't figure out how to get the brake to move far enough left to get the darn screws out. I loosened the clamp to the left and still won't budge. What am I missing? I have almost completely dissabled the brake and I still can't get it to move.

Sounds like a Armidillo. If it is return it and get a Pro-Armor. I have had good luck with Armidillo until I got 1 for the ds, It was a pain to install and lasted 2 mountain rides. The pro armor has been on for a year and installed in a few minutes.

I just need to know how to get the brake to slide a half inch to the left.

I dont remember what Kind I had, but when I put on my swingarm skid Im pretty sure I had to slide the axle out a little bit. It was a while back so i could be wrong.

Are you trying to move the rotor out? If you are loosen the 10mm bolt on the big axle lock nut right next to the rotor. Than turn that nut so the rotor will slide on the axle you might have to remove the C clip on the axle in front of the nut. The rotor should slide right out and give you enough room. I hope that helps and doesn't confuse you. I really don't know the right name for that nut. I just know how to do it.

I have a white bors skid (which is actually a DG Baja skid with a WB sticker in the bag) on my 2001 DS. I have a Pro-Armor on my 2003 Baja. I *HIGHLY* recomend you send the WB back or sell it on ebay if you've modified it already. I had to modify my WB skid a lot to get it to fit, I probably spent two - three hours all total working on that thing. The Pro armor took me ten minutes flat!!!

If you do keep the WB, then the easiest thing to do is hack off the bolts that wont come out. use a bare hacksaw blade or get one of those cheap plastic holders. It'll probably take about 30 - 60 minutes of hacksawing to get it off. Before you hack off bolts, again I strongly suggest the Pro Armor skid instead. The pro armor even has a built in loop to make it easier to tow with - riding a DS you KNOW you are going to be towing someone else's broken quad back to camp at some point!

it only takes 5 or 10 minutes to loosen the clamping nut and slide the rotor hub over.do as squatcher says. you probabaly need the stock bolts for mounting your new skid. you will also need to slide the axle the other way to get the bolt out that is behind the sprocket. when you put the surclip back on. hand tighten the big adjusting nut only. for proper bearing end play. and torq. the 10 mm clamping bolt to 10mn. I have had a armadillo on for a couple of years. I like it. it has cross bars under it that have been used for towing alot.

If it's a White Bros product I'd send it back. I won't buy anything else with their name on it again. I bought a WB R4 pipe, K&N and Dynojets for my DS and it made the bike run worse. Completely stock bikes outrun me. Called the WB folks and they couldn't give me jet settings for the bike because of the K&N. Suggested I use the foam filter that shipped with the kit instead of the K&N even though THEY said the WB filter had 30% LESS airflow than the K&N. Great technical support, huh? At least the pipe is loud. You can hear me coming for miles and you've got plenty of time to get out of the way before I get there!

The guy that I ran with the completely stock bike had a R4 and sold it because it hurt the performance of his bike.

By the way, anybody want to buy a pipe that makes his bike slower?

6 hours later...got it done. What a pain! Thanx for all your support. I can't believe White Bros. can't make a part that fits! Had to drill new holes and shave the plate to get it to fit!
