I want to get a new quad at the end of this year..I'll be broke but I'm going to try anyways...I do 50 trailriding....45 percent....open fields and dunes...and 5% mx...i love the 450r but I don't know about the reverse issue...I want a quad that will haul some a$$...be reliable....and last me for a LOT of years...I want to be able to smoke my buddies v-force too...what do you guys think?

 

After reading your post I would recommend you get a z type 400. You would lose races to your buddy 45% of your races but 55% is more then 45%. The 450's are faster but not in reverse. I rode a v-force and then instantlly got on a piped Z. I rode them on the same little coarse i designed on the fly. I know for a fact I was way faster on the Z then the V. When I did get the V up in the revs and build speed I couldn't see where I was going cuz it rattled my brain so hard, that is not a lie. It sucked at going fast on little bumps.

 

The Z or one of its twins sounds like what would best suit you, my buddy just got a 2004 Z400 and loves it, also a lot of mod potential with that quad.

Ya, the 400's are pretty sweet...if I went that route then I would probably look at the kfx400 just because I like the way it looks a little better..I meen they have the same engines..I'm just in a pickle right now...I'm stuck with either the 450r or the kfx 400...did they fix the frame issues on the z400????

 

If I were you I would be looking at the 450r, or YFZ. The 450s will kill either one of the machines you listed at every catagory and it will also easily beat your buddys V. It don't got the Reverse gear that the 400's got but at 350 pounds its not hard to move it around if needed. The price might cost alittle more but when you compare them you wonder why its more money.
