It seems to me that the shootout was bias from the start and this is from a Yamaha owner. Why was the production Pred500 not tested against the Raptor. Then they could not blame the gearing when the Pred500 smoked the craptor. It just seemed like dirtwheels was not giving polaris the credit for a faster and better handling machine. Saying crap like "Oh, if the raptor just had a pipe", "it's sufficating" sorry for this just saying not everyone who ride other brands are bull$$$t blind. I may buy a Pred500 this year.
1982 Husqvarna430
1987 Yamaha BW350
1991 Honda xr100r
1987 POLARIS CYCLONE that will get the holeshot on anything.

Faster on the TRAILS. As read on the cover of DIRTWHEELS Volume 25, number 1 January 2005 "SHOOTOUT! PREDATOR vs. RAPTOR: EPIC FIGHT FOR BEST TRAIL QUAD"
As read on page#69 of above mentioned magazine- "CONCLUSIONS" "In absolute stock trim, the prize for the best all around trail quad will have to go to the Polaris Predator Troy Lee edition. It's quicker down the trail, it has some of the best suspension of any sport quad available and is fun to ride. However, if you were to invest an extra five hundred dollars on each quad, it would be hard to make the Predator any better. Being that our major complaint about it is the gearing, that would be more expensive to fix. In that case, for 6,200 you could just buy the standard edition Predator and have similar gear ratios as the Raptor and comparable suspension. The Raptor needs a freer flowing muffler, an extended axle and a slightly wider front end. That could be handled with wheel spacers. This five hundred dollar investment would make the Raptor the better buy." as written by DIRTWHEELS staff.
O.K. I think I will buy a standard Predator for $300 less than the Raptor or TL Predator at $6,500 and then take my $500 plus $300 and put it straight to the drive train. You can spend your $500 on wheel spacers and a muffler. Thanks DirtWheels!!!
Guess you didn't read the Mag. You just have a fast drag Raptor, right.

all while giving up 161cc's to the Yammie and weighing 17lb's more.

I think their point is that polaris didn't do such a horrible job on the exhaust and air intake that you don't have to immediately change it. all I ever hear is how dirtwheels is biased against polaris. is that still the case when you win?

there's more to it than just displacement too. try looking at compression. in no way shape or form am I ******* the pred. bad *** quad.

DW is full of crap, reading it wont give you much knowledge, and as NJRaptor419 said, there's more to displacement, for exmaple look at the bomb, it's really heavy, and it's still smoking you.

Point was the article is retarded. This is not a which is faster post-off. My comment was that they should have used the standard against the Raptor. I ride a Yamaha, just came out of the woods 30 minutes ago, and was riding a Yamaha. Post was not bashing Raptor riders. WAS BASHING DIRTWHEELS. Ride what you like. If the shootout was Honda vs. Suzuki I would have made the same comments. Polaris finally made a good sport quad so enjoy Polaris riders and the world will keep hating Someday I'll put that 430 Husky in a Quad frame. I'll call it FrankinQuad, the latest of the hated. Later.
