Limited life time warranty on belts
#1
Beginning with 2001 production ATV's there is a life time warranty on the drive belt.
Owner must follow routine maintenance schedule set up with thier dealer.
Repairs must be competed by dealer and will cover parts and labor to replace belt. Any other parts damaged by belt failure has to be authorized by Polaris.
In most cases customer education on machine operation can prevent future problems.
See YOUR dealer for details.

Just a few questions on this warranty.
What will the normal service entail? It would be worth it if the dealer inspects and adjust the clutches on completing the services. If they just pull the cover, inspect the belt, and charge you $30 bucks, seems like a lot of work to get a new belt that costs $25. Also, will Polaris take the stand that low gear should have been used more and that is the reason for it wearing out? Last question, will aftermarket clutch kits void the warranty? I know you probably don't have much information on this yet, but just wanted to get your thoughts as you are a great resource on these forums. This is a bold move on Polaris's part. I hope this is a statement that they are committed to making quality bikes and not just a bunch of hot air

Every dealer recieved this info on thier "Service Team Tips". The maintence schedule is between you and your dealer. The cover dosent come off for routine maintence, only if you have a broken or damaged belt.

Most likely Polaris will say the belt wear was caused from not using low range, or getting it wet. After all, if that's the real cause, I wouldn't cover it under warrenty if I was Polaris.
But really, isn't that the only reason most belts are wearing out now? I have seen some bikes go through a belt in less than 100 miles, and I saw a pair of Sportsman 500's with about 4000 miles, stock belt.

It is my belief that when Polaris refers to all service work they mean precisely that "ALL". That would include oil changes, greasing, valve adjustments etc. etc. If this is the case it's not worth it because I do most all my own repair/service work as do some of you.

Traildog: I do my own service also so I know my machine is reliable and ready to ride at all times. I also know how operate my machine to keep it reliable. Polaris is showing they will stand behind thier products and I think this lastest warranty is shown in good faith. But do you think they should toss a new belt to every trail jockey that comes to the parts counter? I know people that can break an anvil with a rubber hammer, so I think they should at least be some what responsable for the care of their machine. The dealer and you set up your service routine. If he wants to charge you a fortune to do it I would agree for the guys like you and I it would not be worth it. But for the guy that dosn't or isn't capable to do anything to keep his in tip top shape I think it would be worth it to him.
