Default Fat or skinny tires

When you go to a larger than stock tire, a good share of the manufactures put 10' wide on front and 12" on back. Is this an advantage over an 8" in front and 10" in back? The 27 inch Maxxis Mud Bug is one of the only tires you can get either way. Which would be a better choice for all around riding conditions?

I would stick with the stock width. A wider tire will provide better floatation while a skinnier tire will dig deeper, but also make the vehical less stable
