Default How did your holiday weekend go?

Mine was spent around the house because while my wife was out doing some shopping on friday a guy pulled out in front of her and she T-boned his truck. The kids were with her and her sister and everybody was safe with no injuries, my little boy was alittle shaken and took some time to calm him down. At least the guy was not one of those guys who gets out screaming and shouting how it was not his fault but rather he was calm and admitted to the cops he was ttoaly at fault, so he got a couple of tickets for causing the wreck and for failure to have proof of insurance on him.

Our insurance company tried to call his since he was a commercial vehichle the company he is with had taken friday off for the holiday so I have to deal with them on tuesday. It is a bugger to because we lacked wheels for the weekend to haul the family around so wwe spent some family time walking to church and over to the grocery store for BBQ fixing's. If all goes well we will get a rental on tuesday and I am going to give the insurance company for having no staff on hand to deal with accidents over the weekend, my company Allstate was open.

I am thinking of demanding a Expedition, since that is what we had. I was not able to get a good look at the truck since I did not find out till I had got up to go to work but I did go over to the repair shop before work and from what I saw peeking thru the fence, we will be lucky if they do not total it. If they do that it will suck. It is paid for and looking up the BB value we might get 5 to 7 grand for it and that is far less then a new one by far.

So, what did you do for the Holiday(?) have a great time(?) witness some stupid stuff?

AlaskaBoy.

quadracer,

Nice very Nice. Fishing and BBQ sound great, not much into the partying scene anymore.

Got to deal with the insurance companies and the repair shop and find a rental that can tow today. AlaskaBoy.

Default How did your holiday weekend go?

hehe, I had a fun weekend.

Friend of mine borrowed a trailer from a friend of his so we could get all 5 quads down to the sand dunes.

Friday
Had a nail in one tire, one tire almost bald but though it would be ok. Went to Les Schwabb to get it fixed, no charge

Left 5 hours later than we wanted, in order to miss rush hour traffic, oh well.

Blew out the tire we got fixed while on the freeway, yikes. Got off the road ok. Called a Les Schwabb from a locl city. Actually only took him aobut a half hour to get there. Fixed in no time. He noticed cords showing now on the bald tire, yikes. Still had 3 hours to drive, better go get it fixed.

$185 and two hours later, back on the road

Got to hotel to late to go riding, oh well not problem. Stuffed 7 of us in motel room for 3 nights. my son and I got the floor, hehe.

Saturday
Got up to go riding and it's pouring down raid, oh well, we came to ride.

Got to the sand dunes, no parking on pavement. So we had to go park with all the others in the sand. Viola, got stuck and had to unload the quads so others could get by us.

But, despite wind and rain, had a great day riding.

Back to motel. No parking for the trailer. Decide to just tow the trailer to dinner with us, only about 30 miles. No Problem.
Wrong.... Almost crest a long steep hill, Tranny goes out..aaaaaagggggghhhhhhhhh. Got lucky though, only turnout for 10 miles happen to be right there, on the other side of the road. Luckily only one oncoming car coming at us, able to hold momentum enough to get over and off the road. Of course no cell coverage. Luckily a buddy was with us, went to get cell coverage and a tow and dinner. Me and kids (6,7,9) stranded in car for 3 hours. My kids bicker and fight like most siblings. They were so good this night, that's what kept me from going over the edge and stressing out. They honestly are the only reason for my good attitude that night and rest of the weekend.

$170 and three hours later (midnight), tow truck got both the Bronco and trailer back to Motel.

Sunday
Got up, $209 later, get U-haul truck for the quads. I say to all lets not ruin the weekend and just run home. Hard sell, but did it. Let's have fun today and worry about it tomorrow. We ended up going to a nearby town for fun and dinner.

Monday
Luckily we had a car trailer so could put Bronco on the trailer. Just no way to get the Bronco home which is 5 hours away. Sent wife and 2 kids home with friends, they though I had a ride coming, I fooled 'em. My 6 y/o old son and I hung out at the beach (hot and sunny by now), trying to figure this all out.

Cool thing, had a fellow forum member from the forum listed in my signature, offer to bring two vehicles and trailers to come get us. I have never even met the guy, that was way cool. That is the way all the forum member on our thread are to. He was kinda busy so I told him I had it under control (which I didn't). Finally pulled out the laptop and cell phone (to get on the internet) and put a page out to my fellow co-workers (firefighters). I was reluctant to ask for help, but had no other options at this point. After the page, my phone and pager rang off the hook. Had 15 co-workers call to offer help. That was way cool. That many friends willing to drive 5 hours one way to come get me. My Lt and his son-in-law left at 3:00 pm and we got home at 3:00 am.

$80 in gas for them and $50 for me, we get home at 3:00 am. They will both get Gift Certificates for a really nice dinner.

Now, Bronco sits until I can fix it.

I tell this story not for sympathy, but to show how bad things can happen. It's how you deal with these things that matters. We didn't let it ruin our weekend, we still had one more day of fun. Plus it shows the value of good friends and what we all will do for each other. Bad things could have led to bad weekend and sour attitudes, but we didn't let that happen. I would have normally probably wigged out, but my kids really kept that from happening in the very beginning. Had I not been able to pull over off the road on that hill, at night in the pouring down rain, I would have freaked out. Dangerous spot and didn't want somebody to plow into us and get hurt.

Despite everything, not a horrible weekend
