1993 kodiak 400 smoking
#1
Just bought a kodiak 400 with a little over 5000 km on it. I don't remember it smoking or anything then, but 3000 km later and it is starting to smoke like h*ll when you rev it up somewhat. My 350 big bear doesn't do this. I'm not sure who owned this quad before, so I don't know how well it was taken care of. This is a farm quad and needs to last a while, but the damn thing just wants to smoke. It seems to have some juice left in her. I'm thinking that the rings are shot. I'm considering doing the top end myself. Anyone do anything similar? Is there anything I should reconsider before attempting this? Any help please.

White smoke usually indicates water/coolant in the engine, blue smoke smelling like burnt oil indicates shot rings, and black smoke means you're running rich. Sorry I can't give you tips on breaking her down.
