Default Crooked Deal. Beware of this scam!

So heres the deal, I have been looking for a buyer for my 86 R for a few months(dont think I could actually let it go...), so I put a online classified up on this site, in the classifieds and in a couple of other free online classifieds. Last week, I get a poorly written email wanting to make me an offer on my R, saying that "she" had seen it online. Here is the email correspondence from "her" :

Dear,
compliment of the day to you.
I will like to tell you my interest in buying your ATC 250R for sale,am
really interested in buying this item from you.
I need you to get back to me with the last offering price,so that payment
will be made out immediately.
I hope to read from you soon.
Thanks and God bless you.
Regards,

So immediately Im thinking this smells off, I let it play on to see if "she" was serious, my reply and next message back:

Troy Garrison wrote:Hello, if you are in deed
serious about buying my 250R, the latest asking
price has gone up to 2800. Please contact me again if still interested- we
can talk in person

So now, Im thinking it might be legit, but she needs "her" head examined to pay 3000 for my 86 R- I mean, its nice, but not 3000 nice. She bit hard after I said the price was $2800, I provided the details of all the work I have done and new parts, etc. Heres the next email:

Dear Troy,
Thanks for the mail.well i will like to tell you that i have noted the content of your mail, and you have been able to convinced me that the item is in good condition.
Well like i said earlier my shipper's will be coming to your place for pick up.
I will instruct my church to issue you a certified cashier's check of $6000,after you will deduct your own fee$3000,and have the remining balance of $3000 sent to the shipper for the pick up in your place.
I will like to tell you that immediately my shipper's recieve their funds, they will come for the pick up immediately, and also they will send you the photo I.d of the person coming to your place for pick up,and also they will issue you receipt and have it sent to you via email.
I need you to get back to me with the following information so that payment can be made out to you immediately.
1.Name on the check:
2.Address:
3.Home/cell Phone Number:
I will like to tell you that am really interested in buying this item,i will like you to please do me a favour by selling it to me.
I hope to read from you, with all the information required.
Hope to read from you soon.
Regards,
Rev Jen

What the Hell? A certified cashiers check from a church? This is really smelling funny now. I change the deal and say this will need to be a wire transfer for both of our security, you arrange and pay shipping and we have a deal, but CALL ME PERSONALLY! I asked 3 times for a personal phone call to discuss details, but never happened. NO call, no more emails, this "person" disappeared like a fart in the breeze. I know that people are able to forge cashier's checks now online, I wonder if this is what was goign to happen? Just wanted to post so that we are all aware of what some a-holes are doing on the internet, trying to scam people out of their trikes

Good eye man. I sold a laptop on-line a month ago and I got hammered with stuff like that. They all wanted to send cashiers checks, and they all wanted to do stuff ASAP, no waiting, fast as hell shipping! As soon as I told them the item would not be shipped until I had the cashiers check cashed, they never got back to me. Another funny thing was every person that tryed this could not spell worth a crap, and there grammer was out of this world. DEAR SCAMMERS: Use the spell/grammer button before sending e-mails

Default Crooked Deal. Beware of this scam!

thats the old west african check scam. tell them to send you the money made out to jack mehoff. tell them you can send it out no problem. just tell them what they want to hear, and you can have a funny fake check on the wall...hahaha. i just waist there time for a couple of weeks with pointless emails....cant do anything really to them, but you can at least be a jackass and waist some of there time. i almost got one guy to give me his hometown and birthdate (he was a yahoo user)---with that i couldhave screwed up his whole yahoo account hahaha. theyll probably want you to take a check for 4k, then send them the diff.....dont send any money ever..(duh!!)....the problem is that under federal law, banks have to clear a cashiers check within 10 days of recieving it, whether its authenticity is verified or not. problem comes about a little while after they clear the check, they realize its a fraud, then go after you for the money youve already spent......best bet is to hang it up on the wall haha....the more time we waist on these people's, the less people theyll be able to scam.

I sold a tractor on-line and got a joker like that. I sent him an e-mail that I had informed the FBI's internet fraud division of his activity, and the next day his email address was no longer functioning. Coincidence?
